Welcome
I build simple solid wood furniture using primarily pine. The furniture demonstrates both the simple elegance of the Shaker aesthetic, but also gives a nod to the ingenuity of early Quebec antique furniture. This style of furniture, which is called in some magazines, French Country, is equally at home in a rustic cottage or farmhouse, or alongside modern pieces and more contemporary décor.
I strive to use as much reclaimed wood and glass in my pieces as I can. I do not use any plywood or particleboard, and I use traditional joinery techniques. After each piece is finished it is stained and painted several times with milk paint, which I produce myself using a traditional recipe. Then it is gently sanded to mimic years of use, and give it to the casual observer, the appearance of an antique.
While I do use some basic power tools, a lot of the finesse work on the furniture is done with traditional planes, chisels and spoke shaves.
I work in a small workshop at my home in Kentville Nova Scotia. There I also have a modest show room, where there are always a few of my latest pieces for sale. However I encourage clients to allow me to build custom pieces for their specific needs. For local clients, I have made several built in pieces. I can also build a hutch, table, bookcase, cabinet or ? If you can supply me the dimensions, or even just the use you have in mind. I can make a piece that will meet your needs, last generations, and in colours of your choice.
During the summer I have a booth at the Wolfville Farmers Market every other weekend. E-mail me for my schedule to avoid disappointment.
